Can you charge your AirPods without the case?

No. Unfortunately not. The case is the charger, so without it, you can’t do anything. You also can’t charge them directly via your iPhone or with a cable. The case is essential.

Can you use another AirPods case?

Yes and no. You can’t just use any random AirPods case as a charger unless you re-pair it with your AirPods. Only then will it work. But beware: if someone else’s case is still linked to their AirPods, it won’t work for you.

Apple makes this a bit tricky on purpose to prevent your AirPods from being easily stolen or used by someone else.

Solution: buy a new AirPods case

Good news — you can buy a separate charging case.

• Directly from Apple (expensive but original)
• Or from trusted shops online (often cheaper, just check it’s compatible with your AirPods model)

Make sure to note which generation you have: AirPods 1, 2, 3, 4, or Pro. They all have their own size and case.

And if you find your original case later?

You can just re-pair it with your AirPods. If you’ve bought a new one in the meantime, you’ll end up with two cases — not a problem, it’s handy to have a backup (or to match your outfit, just saying).
